Pokémon Direct: Mystery Dungeon, Sword and Shield DLC

During Pokémon Direct this year we got three big announcements: A rework of the original Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Red and Blue Rescue Team game, An expansion pass with amazing content for Pokémon Sword and Shield and a bit more information about Pokémon Home.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX

First on the list was some long awaited news. A remake for the 2006 games Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Red and Blue Rescue Team.
In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX players will take control over a Pokémon of their choosing, who, together with many different Pokémons will challenge dungeons and take on battles.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX will not just be a remake. It will also contain mega evolution and a completely different art style.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX will be released on the 6th of March 2020 – both physical and digital.
If you can not wait however, there is a demo available in the Nintendo Switch eShop. Any progression made in the demo will be transferable to the actual game when it releases.

Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass

Our latest Pokémon installment will be treated differently than its predecessors. Before, games like Gold & Silver, Ruby & Sapphire, Diamond & Pearl and Sun & Moon would be treated with a reworked installment, ie. Heart Gold & Soul Silver, Emerald / Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, Platinum and Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon. This time it is different.

Pokémon Sword and Shield will get an expansion pass instead of a completely new game. This expansion pass will need to be bought on the Nintendo Switch eShop for a price around €30,- or $30.

The expansion pass will contain two separate adventures, The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra.

The Isle of Armor

The Isle of Armor is built around the theme – growth. This enormous island on the coast of Galar is filled with untouched nature, swamps and beaches. On this island players can find Mustard, the mentor who once trained the champion, Leon. This new island will also have its own legendary Pokémon called Kubfu, a fighting type who evolves into Urshifu.

Besides a whole new adventure, The Isle of Armor will also contain new moves, clothing and skins for your bicycle.

The Isle of Armor is the first part of the expansion and will be released somewhere during the end of June this year.

The Crown Tundra

The Crown Tundra is built around the theme – exploration. Players will become the leader of an exploration theme in this snowy area. In this area players can find the legendary Pokémon Calyrex, a psychic and grass type. The Crown Tundra will feature new co-op game modes where players can join forces and explore underground Pokémon Dens. In these dens, players can find old legendary Pokémons that are able to Dynamax.

Besides the co-op gameplay, The Crown Tundra will also contain new clothing and hairstyles.

The Crown Tundra is the second part of the expansion and is set to be released somewhere during Autumn 2020.

If having two new adventures was not enough, the expansion pass will also bring back 200 Pokémon back into the game. If you do not care about the new expansion areas but want the 200 extra Pokémons, today is your lucky day! When the expansion pass is released a free update will be executed on the base games. With this update it will be possible for players that do not have the expansion pass to still trade the 200 new Pokémons to their game.

Pokémon Home

The last announcement we got was a little bit more information about the cloud service Pokémon Home.

Pokémon Home will only support Pokémons that are obtainable in Pokémon Sword and Shield. More information about Pokémon Home is said to be released soon.
